Cityplot is one of the first project initiatives operating under the umbrella of Our Urban Nature, which promotes nature within urban settings. It is founded on a vast range of ecological philosophies, debates and writings and uses these as a catalyst. The project initiatives on the other hand, are pursued in a very practical, hands-on manner.

Cityplot’s primary concerns are: Climate – Cultivation – Community – Children – Cost

Cityplot ventures to enthuse urban-dwelling individuals and collaboratives alike to be involved in nature and the cycles of its natural seasons. This involves YOU and can be as simple a measure as starting an herb garden in your kitchen window or on your own balcony, or telling us about one you’ve already established. Alternatively, it can be as ambitious as starting up a community garden.

Cityplot sees all city areas and their respective inhabitants, whether they are on private, public or commercial terrain as able to benefit from gardened spaces and the physical, mental and spiritual implications these spaces embody. Additionally, Cityplot views other environmentally sound, green endeavors as nothing less than fellow resources or kindred spirits, with the ultimate potential to join forces.

The core team of Cityplot encourages you in the growing of plant life and provides support with any queries along the way, to help connect knowledge, aspirations and communities. Our first ventures involve the cities of Amsterdam, the Netherlands and Berlin, Germany - and aims to encourage other initiatives to take place both nationally and internationally.

As urban inhabitants, for the first time in history we make up 50% of the earth’s population. In Europe, North America and other areas this figure is already over 70%. UN projections are for the entire population of our planet to be at this latter figure by 2050.

By reconnecting yourself with your food sources, nature’s cycles and the environment, you can begin to take charge of your own impact and respect being part of the greater whole. This refers to you as a member of the community and an integral part of the entire eco-cycle.

Cityplot urges the growth of ORGANIC EDIBLES.

The predetermined boundaries which Cityplot operates within, has a focus on organic soil composition and seed/plant origin, companion planting and uses the lunar cycles as a guide.

The consumption of self-grown produce directly confronts us with considerations of health: the quality of the produce with which all of us nourish our bodies is greatly affected by the nurturing processes through which this produce has gone. On the other hand the manner in which consumables are nurtured throughout their growth have a direct effect on the surrounding environment and the health of the soil. Looking objectively at the effects of climate change it is also easy to see why securing our long term food supply should be as high on the agenda as current economic problems. It is time to reduce our reliance on the others who supply food to our stores and markets. In this respect, Cityplot, along with your involvement, is not merely a gardening conquest, but sows for survival.

Cityplot also supports the growth of ORNAMENTAL and WILD/HERITAGE PLANTS.

There are also plots within our cities on which it is not advisable or desirable to plant consumables. Here you can go wild on aesthetics – beautifying your surroundings and increasing pride in your urban living spaces, whether they are on private, recreational/public or commercial terrain. In creating more places for solace, encouraging diversity of wildlife and cleansing the air we breathe, our urban environment functions for us all on a significantly different level. We have a number of location ideas to get underway and hope to increase this number with your enthusiasm and assistance.
