Ever want to start an urban edible garden in the city — even with just a balcony? Would you like to transform a backyard full of tiles into a vegetable garden? Or did you try growing your own herbs and vegetables before, without success, and feel hesitant to try again? If that sounds familiar, this workshop is a perfect place to begin.

Part of the Beginner’s Gardening Series, this session focuses on the foundations: understanding permaculture and learning how to design your garden with intention. Amy shares how she transformed her tile-covered yard in Amsterdam Noord into a balanced, thriving edible space — and how you can do the same in your own way.

This workshop is about clarity, planning, and building confidence before you plant - suitable for beginners, as well as those who want to refresh or build on some basic knowledge about permaculture and crop planning.

In this workshop, you’ll cover:

  • What permaculture is

  • Step-by-step garden design for small spaces

  • Choosing crops that suit your lifestyle and space

  • Seasonal crop planning in the Dutch climate

  • Avoiding common beginner mistakes

What’s included:

  • 2–2.5 hours of guided instruction in a small group

  • Hands-on exercises in the garden when weather allows

  • Seeds, seedlings, or plant materials to take home when available
