Have you ever planted seeds that never sprouted? Or struggled with pests and diseases and didn’t know what to do? Many beginner gardeners feel discouraged after a few failed attempts. But often, it’s not about having a “green thumb” — it’s about understanding balance.

Part of the Beginner’s Gardening Series, this hands-on workshop focuses on starting strong and creating a biodiverse garden that supports itself naturally. Drawing from her experience transforming a tile-covered yard into a thriving edible space, Amy will guide you through practical seed-starting techniques and natural ecosystem management. You’ll learn how to grow with nature instead of constantly fighting problems.

This workshop is ideal for beginners, and also for gardeners who have some experience but want to strengthen their skills in seed starting and creating a balanced garden.

In this workshop, you’ll cover:

  • How and when to sow seeds successfully

  • Transplanting seedlings with confidence

  • Soil, light, and watering essentials

  • Companion planting basics

  • Encouraging pollinators and beneficial insects

  • Natural approaches to common pests and diseases

What’s included:

  • 2–2.5 hours of guided instruction in a small group

  • Hands-on exercises in the garden when weather allows

  • Seeds, seedlings, or plant materials to take home when available
